Extended Runway, Hajj and Umrah Flights Can Be Direct from Supadio Airport

Jakarta - Runway at Supadio (Pontianak) International Airport is extended to be able to serve wide-body aircraft or widebody.

The runway extension project from 2,250 x 45 meters to 2,600 x 45 meters starts this year and is completed in the next 1.5 years.

After the runway is extended, Supadio International Airport can accommodate widebody Airbus A330 or classmate flights.

Along with that, later Supadio International Airport can serve direct flights for Umrah and Hajj services. As for last year, prospective pilgrims from Pontianak entered the Batam embarkation.

PT Angkasa Pura II's President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said that with a longer runway dimension Supadio International Airport would be easier to serve West Kalimantan residents, especially Pontianak, in carrying out hajj and umrah.

"So far there are no direct flights from Pontianak to Saudi Arabia because indeed facilities at airports, especially runways, have not been able to accommodate that. We hope that after the runway extension project is complete, flights will be opened for pilgrimage and pilgrimage, "he said.

The investment prepared by PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) for the runway extension project reached Rp 158.3 billion.

Over the past year, Supadio International Airport served the movement of 4.2 million passengers. This year, passenger movements are expected to reach 4.4 million passengers.

Airlines that serve flights in Pontianak are Garuda Indonesia, Sriwijaya Air, NAM Air, AirAsia, Wings Air, Express Air, Lion Air and Citilink.

In addition to domestic flights, international routes served from Supadio Airport are from and to Kuching and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).
