Positive Trend Continues: Aircraft Movement at Soekarno-Hatta Translates to 524 Flights Per Day, the Highest Since the Pandemic

15 Aug 2020

In August 2020, it is estimated that 2 million people will fly at the 19 PT Angkasa Pura II airports

Jakarta - Airline traffic is increasingly operating at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport amidst the national economic recovery (PEN).

On Friday, August 14, 2020, the movement of aircraft at Soekarno-Hatta reached its highest point during the global pandemic of COVID-19, reaching 524 flights or 43.6% of the existing capacity, namely 1,200 flights / day.

The number of airplane passengers on that date was also the highest since the pandemic hit, reaching 45,745 passengers.

President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) Muhammad Awaluddin said 500 flights / day were expected to be the latest psychological number at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

"One of the driving factors for the high number of flights on August 14 is the long weekend. This indicates that the travel pattern of the people by plane has begun to recover, where normal flight conditions during the long weekend period are quite high. This is also an indicator of maintaining public trust in the national aviation sector in the midst of a pandemic, one of which is the Safe Travel Campaing held by PT Angkasa Pura II together with stakeholders. "

"We hope that the trend of increasing aircraft movements and the number of aircraft passengers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport can be maintained. As many as 500 flights / day are also expected to be a new psychological number in the midst of this pandemic, so that the figure can slowly increase again and again, "explained Muhammad Awaluddin.

Previously, in the midst of this pandemic, the movement of aircraft in April 2020 was only around 200 flights / day, then in May 2020 about 100 flights / day and in July 2020 also around 300 flights / day.

Target of 2 million passengers by August 2020
Seeing the increasing trend of aviation, PT Angkasa Pura II estimates that the number of aircraft passengers at 19 airports can reach 2 million passengers by August 2020.

As for July 2020, the number of passengers has reached around 1.5 million passengers.

Muhammad Awaluddin said public trust in air transportation could be maintained so that flights were on a positive trend.

"One of the keys is public trust in using air transportation, and in line with that PT Angkasa Pura II is collaborating with stakeholders at 19 airports to hold a Safe Travel Campaign: Safe Airport for Safe Travel Experience to commit to maintaining the fulfillment of global standard health protocols in the midst of this pandemic," Muhammad Awaluddin said.

Currently, all 19 airports in Angkasa Pura II are making various efforts to increase the utilization of flight slots through reopening routes / destinations and increasing the frequency of flights on 1 flight route by airlines.
